Monday, China saw a 29-day gold medal streak at the Games come to an end. And Tuesday -- they would start a new streak, and they would do it in a sport the Chinese are synonymous for -- table tennis. 

In women's team table tennis, favourites China secured the country's third gold in the discipline at these Games, sweeping past Germany in three straight sets to earn another crown. It is the 27th Olympic title for China in table tennis since the sport was introduced at the 1988 Games. Japan would grab the bronze.

21-year-old picks up China's fifth gold in diving in Rio

China's Cao Yuan captured gold in the men's 3m springboard as China grabbed its fifth diving gold in Rio. It is Cao's first individual Olympic title and second gold, as he won the synchronised platform crown in London 2012. Britain's Jack Laugher took silver while Patrick Hausding of Germany won bronze.

Fu & Zhang lead squad against Malaysia in gold medal match

China's Fu Haifeng and Zhang Nan ended Britain's run in men's badminton doubles as they beat the 22nd-ranked Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge 21-14, 21-18.  The Chinese pair will face Malaysia in the final.

Danish victory puts them into final against Japan

Over on the women's side, an inspired performance by Danes Christinna Pedersen and Kamilla Rytter Juhl upset China's second-ranked pair of Yu Yang and Tang Yuanting 21-16, 14-21, 21-19, ending the Asian nation's 20-year stranglehold on the title. Denmark face Japan in the title contest. 

China grab silver as Japan take the bronze medal

Russian pair Natalia Ishchenko and Svetlana Romashina outdueled the competition to win the duet synchronized swimming crown. The country has won every gold medal in the event since the 2000 Games. China's Huang Xuechen and Sun Wenyan took the silver, four years after earning bronze.
