Two runners died accidentally in the first Xiamen (Haicang) International Half Marathon, and one of the two turned out to be an illegal replacement.

According to China central Television, it is common for some marathon runners to hire illegal replacements simply as substitutes, but in some other cases marathon runners hire illegal replacements to win them a spot for higher level competitions.
根据央视的报道，一些马拉松选手因事雇用非法替跑者是很常见的，但在其他一些情况下，马拉松选手会雇用非法替跑者来赢得更高级别比赛的资格。
Yan Xinning, a marathon runner, said that quota transfer is very common and for some marathon competitions, more than half of runners use illegal replacements. He also mused if there was a screening system, the substitute who suffered from sudden death in Xiamen (Haicang) International Half Marathon could possibly have been saved.
马拉松选手阎新宁说，名额转让现象非常普遍，对于一些马拉松比赛来说，有一半以上的选手使用替跑者。他还考虑如果有筛选系统，厦门（海沧）国际半程马拉松猝死的替跑者可能不会死亡。
Wu Mingxian, deputy director of Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Sports, explained that the sudden death incident is after all only a probability event.
厦门市体育局副局长吴明显解释说，猝死事件毕竟只是一个概率事件。
"But this incident pushes us to set up a screening system and find out those who violate the rules. The organizing committee has compared more than 100,000 photos and runners’ signs to figure out 30 illegal replacements," said Wu Mingxian.
吴明显说：“但这次事件推动我们建立一个筛选系统，找出违规者，组织委员会比较了十多万张照片和选手的号码牌，找出了30个非法替跑者。”
He also said that to screen all runners requires too much energy and resources, so they focus on runners who have high ranks in the marathon.
他还表示，要筛选所有选手需要太多的精力和资源，所以他们将重点关注在马拉松比赛中取得名次的选手。
